MISSION EL SALVADOR NEWSLETTER - MAY, 2007

Thanks for being there and caring! There are several important items to communicate.

Summer Pilgrimage to El Salvador.

Because people would like to visit but are unable to leave in February, we are planning a pilgrimage for July 9 -16, 2007. Cost would be between $900 and $1000 - the bulk of that being air fare. Purpose: to see the face of God in the poor - and to build bridges of relationship and solidarity with our brothers and sisters. Please let us know soon of your interest! 466-3207. (The two pilgrimages in February totaled 19 pilgrims.)

El Salvador Picnic - June 29, 2007
Our annual pot luck picnic is scheduled for the weekend that Fr. Rafael will be in the area, Friday, June 29. Anyone interested in El Salvador is welcomed. It begins about 6pm - meat is furnished. Again it will be at Linehan's in Harpersfield south of Geneva. Please contact 466-3207 or welinehan@yahoo.com if you can come and for directions.

New Bishop in Chalatenango
Bishop Eduardo Alas has been "retired" for two years. He is finally getting his well earned rest. Bishop Luis Morao will be installed sometime soon. He is Italian and has been serving in El Salvador for 19 years.

Sponsoring Students
The school year began in February in El Salvador. We have some students who don't have sponsors but have been "carried" so far, hoping to find sponsors. The cost is $250/year (or $25/mo for 10 months) There is a bi-lingual, very capable woman in El Salvador named Marjorie who is helping us to coordinate the program from there. She is even translating letters both ways! Please let us know if you would like to sponsor a student!! (440-466-3207 or welinehan@yahoo.com)

Rummage Sale
The annual Share the Bounty Rummage Sale for El Salvador will be at Assumption Church, Geneva, on May 19/20. Donations are needed!! Also sorters (anytime between now and then) and shoppers are welcome! 466-3207

International Gift Fair, 2006
The International Fair held the two weekends before Thanksgiving was the best yet. $23,000 in crafts made by the needy in developing countries was sold!! Thanks to all who worked and shopped to help in this important endeavor. Please save the two weekends again for International Gift Fair 2007.

Sister Parishes
There are 10 sister parish relationships. The US pastor of one parish, Fr. Dan Venglarik in Boardman, is very ill. Please keep him in prayer.

May God Bless You and your interest in our needy world. You do make a difference!
